Otumfuo Sets October 31 Start for 1st Asanteman Odwira Festival in 64 Years, Featuring Paramountcy Promotions in Ahafo and Bono Regions

Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has announced that the Asanteman Odwira Festival will commence on October 31, 2025.

The day is “fofie,” a sacred day on the Asante traditional calendar, and important traditional rites will be performed.

His Majesty made this announcement at the Asanteman Council meeting held at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi on Monday, March 17.

Yams and Festival Preparations
Otumfuo indicated that the Bantamahene, Asemhene, and Menjihene will play key roles in the celebrations.

The Menjihene will bring yams from his base in the Bono region to the Manhyia Palace in accordance with tradition.

Otumfuo also mentioned that Sunday, November 9, will be celebrated as Akwasidae. He noted, “Between the ‘fofie’ and Akwasidae, there will be clean-up exercises throughout Asanteman.” During this period, the Sewuahene will also bring yams to the Manhyia Palace.

Full Celebrations
His Majesty stated that November 17 will mark “Nkyedwuo,” the day the Odwira festivities will move into full swing. On this day, the King plans to visit Bampenase, Bantama, and Breman.

Elevation of Stools
Additionally, Otumfuo announced that he will elevate several stools in the Ahafo and Bono regions to paramouncies as part of the Odwira celebrations. These include Nchiraa, Menji, Fiapre, and Atronie.
He added, “I have other towns that I will also elevate to paramouncies.”

The King emphasized, “I act in accordance with tradition. I am the sole authority to elevate stools, and I will elevate selected stools in the Bono and Ahafo regions before the Odwira festivities.”
