‘I look forward to appearing before the Appointments Committee’ – Barker-Vormawor

Prominent activist Oliver Barker-Vormawor has confirmed he will appear before Parliament’s Appointments Committee, following an invitation to substantiate claims of bribery against the committee.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Barker-Vormawor expressed his commitment to democracy, stating: “This is how a democracy improves. I look forward to appearing before the Appointments Committee tomorrow. Thank you.”

The activist had alleged that members of the Appointments Committee have been demanding money from ministerial nominees in exchange for their approval. These claims, however, have been strongly denied by the committee, especially the Minority members.

Speaking on the matter, the Chairman of the Appointments Committee, Bernard Ahiafor, categorically dismissed the allegations, stating on Tuesday, January 28: “Neither I nor any member of this committee has engaged in such practices.”

The invitation to Barker-Vormawor marks a critical moment in addressing these allegations, with many viewing the proceedings as an opportunity to uphold transparency and accountability in Parliament.

Barker-Vormawor’s public stance on democracy and his willingness to engage with the Appointments Committee have heightened public interest in the outcome of the hearing.
