Ibrahim Tanko in talks to become Medeama’s new head coach

Former Accra Lions coach Ibrahim Tanko is in advanced discussions to take over as head coach of Medeama SC after parting ways with Accra Lions earlier in the season.

Tanko, who previously served as Ghana’s assistant coach, is eager to take on the challenge, and Medeama are equally keen to secure his services following a string of disappointing results.

Medeama have struggled in recent matches, failing to win their last four games, including back-to-back losses to Accra Lions and Berekum Chelsea. These poor results have hampered their title aspirations, leaving them eight points behind the leaders in the Ghana Premier League.

Coach Evans Adotey, who had been serving as interim head coach after the departure of Bosnia’s Nebojsa Kapor in December 2024, has been reassigned to the role of technical director. Despite overseeing a single victory in six matches, the club’s management has opted to pursue a new managerial direction to restore their form.

Medeama currently sit seventh in the league standings, having earned 26 points from 18 games. The club’s leadership is hopeful that Tanko’s appointment will provide the necessary boost to their ambitions and help them climb back into the title race.
