A formal petition has been submitted to President John Dramani Mahama, seeking the removal of the Electoral Commission (EC) Chairperson, Mrs. Jean Adukwei Mensa, along with her two deputies, Dr. Eric Bossman Asare and Mr. Samuel Tettey, as well as Dr. Peter Appiahene.
The petition, submitted on Monday, January 27, 2025, invokes Article 146 of Ghana’s 1992 Constitution as the legal basis for the request.
The petition accuses the EC Chair and her deputies of gross misconduct, breaches of human rights, and incompetence in their official roles.
The complainant alleges that their actions have undermined the credibility and integrity of the Electoral Commission, casting doubt on its ability to uphold the democratic process in Ghana.
The document specifically highlights concerns about mismanagement during critical electoral activities and claims that the leadership’s alleged failures have eroded public trust in the EC.
According to the petitioner(s), these breaches of duty are serious enough to justify their removal to protect Ghana’s democratic stability.
